Minoxidil 5%
It is applied in the form of lotion or foam, with local massage on the head twice a day.
Advantages:
- Combats the thinning of the hair follicle
- Reduces hair loss
- Helps maintain existing hair growth
In some cases, hair growth has also been observed, however, they are thinner and lighter than normal. The results are seen after six months. Unfortunately, the lotion or foam should be used continuously and if the application is stopped, the positive effects are inverted. Side effects are lowering blood pressure with fainting, itching and redness on the skin of the head.
Minoxidil 2 %
It was approved for use in women. Women seem to be more sensitive to the side effects of minoxidil, with reduced blood pressure (hypotension) and a feeling of fainting. Women also have an increased risk of skin allergies (contact dermatitis). A disturbing local reaction that can sometimes develop in women who are treating minoxidil is hair growth on the face. Although these unnecessary hairs are resolved slowly when the drug is stopped, sometimes it is necessary to depilate. If you take careful the medication to avoid drips on the cheeks and the forehead it reduces the occurrence of this phenomenon. There is a greater incidence of these side effects when using the 5% minoxidil solution.
Dutasteride
It belongs to the class of DHT inhibitors as finasteride but inhibits both types of 5a-reductase enzyme while finasteride inhibits one. Dutasteride can be used as a solution for injection with mesotherapy (U-225 gun), which offers excellent results.
Finasteride
It is a substance with proven results in the treatment of hair loss (Propecia, Proscar). It acts by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
The results of this treatment is impressive, as it significantly slows hair loss and restores fragile hair to a certain extent.
The observed side effects are:
- reduction or permanent loss of sexual mood
- gynecomastia
- weak spermatozoa
- can be prostate cancer because it reduces PSA (specific prostatic antigen) levels. For this reason, it should not be administered at ages over 45 years.
This hair loss treatment has effects during drug administration, since the problem is gradually being restored after its breakup. The FDA recently announced that the loss of sexuality may be irreversible.
Spironolactone (recommended only for women)
It belongs to the class of potassium savory diuretics. It also has antiandrogenic activity in two ways, decreasing the production of androgens from adrenal glands and ovaries and partially blocking the binding of DHT to androgenetic receptors.
Cimetidine (recommended only for women)
This istamine receptor inhibitor is used primarily for the treatment of peptic ulcers. Also in high doses it has a powerful antiandrogenic activity preventing the binding of DHT to the hair follicle receptors.
Ciproterone acetate and ethinylestradiol (recommended only for women)
These contraceptives under the brand Diane35 and Diane50 are administered to the female with androgenetic alopecia. They act partially by blocking the action of androgens and lead to the inhibition of further loss and hair regrowth.
